Key Responsibilities
A CNC/VMC Operator��s day is split between technical setup and physical production:
Machine Setup: Loading the specific program (G-code/M-code), selecting the correct cutting tools, and setting offsets so the machine knows exactly where the material is.
Operation: Monitoring the machine while it runs. This involves button pushing but also listening for unusual sounds that might indicate a tool is breaking.
Quality Inspection: Using precision instruments like Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, and Bore Gauges to ensure every part matches the engineering drawing.
Minor Programming: Making small edits to the program (like adjusting speeds or feeds) to improve the quality or speed of production.
Maintenance: Daily cleaning of the machine, checking coolant levels, and lubricating moving parts.
2. Required Skills & Qualifications
Education: Typically an ITI (Machinist, Turner, or Fitter) or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Technical Knowledge:
Ability to read 2D Engineering Drawings and understand GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Familiarity with machine controls like Fanuc, Siemens, or Mazak.
Basic understanding of G-codes (geometry) and M-codes (machine functions).
Physical Stamina: The ability to stand for long shifts (8��12 hours) and handle heavy metal workpieces.
