As a Steel Detailer, you will be responsible for translating structural engineer's and architect's drawings into detailed fabrication and erection drawings for steel structures. This involves creating precise 2D and 3D models of steel components, connections, and assemblies using specialized detailing software. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural steel principles, excellent drafting skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to producing accurate and constructible drawings.
Responsibilities
Drawing & Modeling:
Interpret and analyze architectural and structural engineer's design drawings (GA plans, sections, elevations, etc.).
Create accurate and comprehensive 3D models of steel structures, including beams, columns, trusses, bracing, purlins, etc., using steel detailing software (e.g., Tekla Structures, AutoCAD Structural Detailing, SDS/2).
Generate detailed fabrication drawings (shop drawings) for individual steel components, including precise dimensions, material specifications, welding symbols, bolt holes, and cut lists.
Produce clear and accurate erection drawings (assembly drawings) showing the layout, orientation, and connection details for on-site installation.
Develop detailed connection drawings as per design intent or standard connections.
Bill of Materials (BOM) & Reports:
Generate accurate Bill of Materials (BOM), bolt lists, and other material reports directly from the 3D model.
Ensure all quantities and specifications match the design requirements.
Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate closely with structural engineers, project managers, fabricators, and erectors to clarify design intent, resolve discrepancies, and ensure construct ability.
Communicate any RFI (Request for Information) clearly and precisely to the engineering team or client for clarification.
Incorporate changes and revisions quickly and accurately as per client/engineer feedback.
Quality & Standards:
Ensure all detailing work adheres to relevant industry standards (e.g., IS 800, AISC, Eurocodes), local building codes, and company quality procedures.
Perform self-checks and peer reviews to maintain high levels of accuracy and minimize errors.
Maintain organized project files, drawing revisions, and documentation.
Software & Technology:
Stay updated with the latest features and advancements in steel detailing software and related technologies.
